Analyzing Your Dreams for Fun and Profit!
Each dream contains at least one powerful message to help you succeed in life.
Creative Dream Analysis is a unique and eminently usable book that teaches the
reader how to interpret and benefit from all those mysterious nighttime messages.
According to Yamamoto, a dream expert, dream-coded information provides an
invaluable resource for anyone on the path of personal development. His extensive
"Dictionary of Universal Symbols" is an indispensable reference. Learn why you
have dreams of flying, falling, being back in school, fighting, dancing, being lost,
meeting childhood friends, and being chased. Now - at your fingertips - effective
dream interpretation is possible for you.
We are all dreamers
The only real difference between us is our ability to recall our dreams. On one
extreme are those who fail to remember any dream, except for an occasional
fleeting image that faded away almost as soon as they opened their eyes. On the
other extreme is a living story, full of life and color. These dreams may be
remembered with such vivid details that the dreamer may have to stop and think if
it was really a dream or an actual event in his or her life. With some of my clients,
their dreams are filled with all the feelings, dialogue, and action found in the best
novels. Of course, for the vast majority of people, dream recollection falls
somewhere between these extremes.
Ancient records show that there were a few people who were able to interpret the
messages found in dreams. In those days, these seers were often feared and also
held in great reverence. If they could interpret their own dreams and predict future
events, they were called prophets. If they could interpret the dreams of others,
they were believed to be in contact with the Creator. They were set apart,
respected, and often bestowed with lavish gifts for their powers.
Research
Modern researchers have studied the phenomena of dreams and have made some
significant discoveries. Sigmund Freud, the scientific pioneer of dream analysis,
believed that there was a sexual or sensual motivation behind all dreams. Carl Jung
went deeper and touched on one of the keys of dream analysis. He believed that
dreams had a much deeper and more significant meaning—that a person’s dreams
were the means through which the dreamer received spiritual direction to assist in
his or her evolutionary growth.
After Jung, the remainder of the research on dreams has focused primarily on the
form of dreaming and not so much on its content. For example, science has
discovered the average person has four or five dream periods each night. Between
these periods, the sleeper enters into a state of deep relaxation. The activity of his
mind slows down and the dreamer’s brain waves show the slow, rhythmic pattern
associated with deep sleep. Scientists also know that each dream period lasts for
about thirty minutes, while the interval between dreams averages about ninety
minutes. They also found out that what is called rapid eye movement (REM), which
can be easily observed, always accompanies dreaming.
Research has also shown dreams to be an essential part of life. If a person is kept
from dreaming for any length of time, that person’s personality will begin to
change. Even if a person is allowed to experience their deep levels of sleep, a
single night without dreaming usually causes nervousness and irritability. The
longer the person goes without dreaming, the more irritable he or she becomes.
Finally, if dreaming is prevented for a few days, the non-dreamer will suffer definite
psychological changes in their behavior.
But with all this research on dreams, science has left the symbolic content of
dreams alone. Symbols were found to be too complicated, having too many
possible meanings. Invariably, they were subject to the personal bias of whoever
was interpreting their meaning.
My Interest
My interest in dream analysis began with a dream analysis class in 1972 given by
Commander William Buehler, (U.S. Navy, retired). This was not my first exposure to
metaphysics and spirituality. Back in 1954, I began self-defense training in aikido
that continued, on and off, for over twenty years. Besides the physical discipline,
the training included oriental martial arts philosophy and meditation. In 1959, I
undertook a year of intensive study in Buddhist theology and considered becoming
a Buddhist minister. This was not possible because of my poor comprehension of
the Japanese language and the need to learn and master a third language,
Sanskrit. But I continued my meditation and studies, which expanded to include
other Eastern religions and spirituality.
By the middle 1970s, I was teaching classes in palmistry, religion, past life
readings, channeling, healing, massage techniques, awareness training, and many
others. I gave readings, mostly in palmistry, tarot, regression analysis, and dream
interpretation. In 1984, I was ordained a priest in the Church of Antioch, Malabar
Rites. The Church was founded in Antioch (an ancient Syrian city) and moved to
Malabar, India. From there, it spread throughout the Far East and eventually into
Australia. From Australia, it was brought to the United States. It is not associated
with the Roman or Anglican Catholic Churches. Through all this, my interest in
dream analysis continued. I took what Commander Buehler provided and began
building on it. This book, which records my observations, was started in 1976 and
has slowly evolved to its present form.
From many years of study on the subject of dreams, my personal observation has
led me to conclude that dreams have a single, powerful purpose. They exist solely
for the purpose of helping us to succeed. When I realized this, I was ecstatic.
Imagine, having a guide that follows us throughout our lives. This guide
continuously observes our thoughts and actions, and then providing us with the
best advice (at this moment) for our personal well-being and success.
Symbolic Language of Dreams
This can be wonderful, except that the language of dreams is symbolic. If we were
to ask different people what they thought a symbol meant, their answers would be
based on their own backgrounds. Their cultural heritage, religious beliefs, life
experiences, education, and present psychological state would all influence their
reply. A random sampling from the general public would invariably lead to
frustration and failure. The butcher and the vegetarian would probably have
conflicting ideas of what the meaning of the symbol "meat" should be. Even if they
tried to put their conscious bias aside, their personal ideas and feelings about any
given symbol are already a part of their subconscious minds. Results obtained from
using Jung's technique of free association, where the tester gives the subject a
word and the subject says the first word that comes to mind, will still be colored by
personal feelings, thoughts, and experiences. Experiments using this method have
shown there are only a few symbols that appear to be " archetypal." In order to
expand our understanding of a larger number of symbols, a new method had to be
found.
The messages of dreams are stored in the deeper subconscious levels of our mind.
There are those who are able to tap into those levels. They are called prophets or
psychics. Of course, psychics are far from infallible. A method to minimize their
personal prejudices also had to be developed. After some experimentation, I found
that using the synergic energy, or group energy, of several people proved to be
very effective. Using what I will term "group mind," individual traits were
minimized, and a clearer meaning for each symbol was obtained. Through an
energy bond with several others, sitting in a light meditative state, the meaning for
each symbol was obtained.. Although we were able to tap Jung's "universal
unconscious," our results were not the elusive archetypal definitions.
Purpose of Book
For the purposes of this book, the definitions we obtained are aimed at individuals
who are on their personal journey for inner growth and self-improvement. The
"universal symbols," as I call them, will serve as a guide as we progress through
life. Using these universal symbols, it will only be a matter of time before we will
automatically begin to understand the messages of our dreams. Our dreams will
then provide us with the guidance we need and also act as signposts for the
significant moments in our lives. Additionally, the book will reveal how to identify
and define our personal symbols. These symbols have a unique meaning to each of
us. We will be able to differentiate between the universal and personal symbols and
thereby correctly decipher the messages that are being presented.
Effectiveness of Book
The best test for this book is your own personal test. Use the methods described
and measure its effectiveness. You will be astounded as to what your dreams can
provide. Over the past thirty years, I have found the dreams can provide the
following information:
•
Solutions to problems
•
Innovative answers
•
Creative ideas
•
New uses for old products
•
Ideas for books, music, songs, novels, etc.
•
Methods to communicate ideas
•
Insights into other people
•
Insights into the dreamer life situations
This book has been written as concisely as possible. Its purpose is to aid in your
understanding of the mechanics of dream analysis. But its true value will only be
realized after you have recorded your dreams, extracted their messages, and
applied these messages to your life. I know you will find it a valuable tool to assist
you in handling the problems of life and in guiding you in discovering and fulfilling
your life's mission.
